As a celebrated soloist and chamber musician, his artistry is rooted in a world-class academic foundation. He earned his Bachelor of Music from the\u00a0Universidad de Los Andes<\/b>\u00a0in Bogot\u00e1, Colombia, under the guidance of Maestro Jaime Arias Obreg\u00f3n, before moving to the U.S. to complete both a Master\u2019s and a Doctorate in Guitar Performance and Pedagogy at the\u00a0University of Southern Mississippi<\/b>\u00a0under the guidance of\u00a0Dr. Nicholas Ciraldo<\/b>.<\/p>\n
Dr. Castilla\u2019s influence as an educator is as vast as his performance career. He has shared his expertise at a variety of higher education institutions, holding teaching positions at\u00a0Middle Tennessee State University<\/b>,\u00a0Tennessee State University<\/b>,\u00a0North Carolina State University<\/b>,\u00a0Fayetteville State University<\/b>,\u00a0Methodist University<\/b>, and\u00a0Coastal Carolina Community College<\/b>. Before his move to the U.S., he also served as a guitar professor at\u00a0Universidad del Atl\u00e1ntico<\/b>\u00a0in his hometown of Barranquilla, where he founded the Philharmonic Society of Barranquilla to champion regional arts and culture.<\/p>\n
Today, Dr. Castilla is a cornerstone of the North Carolina arts community. He is the owner and director of the\u00a0Fayetteville School of Music<\/b>, and he serves as the President of\u00a0Camellia Camerata<\/b>, a non-profit organization dedicated to the promotion and performance of chamber music across North Carolina. His visionary leadership in these roles was recognized globally in 2023 when\u00a0Musical America Worldwide<\/i>\u00a0named him one of the\u00a0Top 30 Music Professionals in the United States<\/b>.<\/p>\n
Beyond the classroom and his leadership roles, Carlos is a prolific recording artist. He is widely known for his work with\u00a0Duo Guitiano<\/b>, an acclaimed guitar-piano duo alongside pianist Amanda Virelles, dedicated to reviving and performing rare masterpieces for the ensemble. Whether performing solo, leading a non-profit, or mentoring the next generation of musicians, Dr. Castilla remains a driving force in the modern musical landscape.<\/p>\n
